The Facts Concerning Botox Procedures

November 14th, 2009

Sydney Botulinum injections (BoTox for short) is now popular amongst up-to-date Sydney society and now it has become an integral part of a beauty routine for those in the city. Still I am often amazed when I listen to the amount of stories which have originated in connection with this treatment. Here I have listed a few of the myths often encountered at Star Cosmetic Medicine located in Pyrmont, Sydney.

Mistaken Belief Number 1: I could lose the ability to express emotions!

Underneath the skin of the face are sixty or so muscles. Their unrelenting use over a period of time can result in wrinkles to form. The overuse of Botulinum Toxin have the effect of the face becoming too relaxed. The quantity injected by virtually all physicians will result in you looking less tired, but still you will keep your facial expression.

Therefore by employing a carefully calculated quantity of the BoTox in precisely the right tissues facial expression is preserved whilst any fine lines are smoothed.

Mistaken Belief Number 2: Botulinum is toxic!
This to a small extent is true. Its scientific name is Botulinum Toxin Type A. In large amounts it can relax facial muscles that you do not want loosened or may cause sickness.

But to put matters into perspective: an old chemist’s saying states that ‘everything is poisonous - it all depends on the dose’. Any drug can make an individual very ill in large dosages. Water can kill you if enough is taken.

Mistaken Belief Number 3: BoTox will sting!
In our clinic Star Cosmetic Medicine the doctor will use a hypodermic needle finer than a human hair. Several individuals liken the shots to mosquito bites. It for certain is not as painful as something like a blood test.

Mistaken Belief Number 4: My face will lose sensitivity!
False. BoTox works on the neuromuscular junction, and not on the nerves of sensation. BoTox just impacts on the relaxation of muscles.

Mistaken Belief Number 5. You can’t stop getting BoTox otherwise you will have even worse wrinkles than before!
Also incorrect.

You can expect BoTox to last for upwards of 3 months. Any injections after the first one should last a few weeks longer. Eventually as muscle strength returns to normal the wrinkles will return little by little. But they will certainly be no more pronounced than when you began.

As A Matter Of Fact any wrinkles should be be less pronounced than if you hadn’t undergone BoTox - even should you don’t continue the injections. This is generally so because your facial muscles and skin have had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ when the BoTox was effective.
